Silence the Violence on April 30, 2011

WSC supports the Chicago United Hoops Classic
Chicago’s West and South sides have been ongoing rivals and unfortunately both neighborhoods have been affected by youth violence. On April 30, 2011, The Norm Van Lier Scholarship Fund is organizing the inaugural Chicago United Hoops Classic. The mission is to help unify Chicago’s youth with a star-studded West Side vs. South Side high school basketball all-star game, a celebrity game, and an anti-violence campaign hosted at the Sullivan Athletic Center on the campus of DePaul University.
The Chicago United Hoops Classic will highlight the values of education, courage, respect, and teamwork that were cherished and exemplified the beloved Chicago Bull's great Norm Van Lier.
The activities sponsored by the fund will seek to demonstrate the value of maintaining a positive attitude and the belief in one's abilities to accomplish anything in life. The goal of this event is to instill a sense of value and importance in each “Hoops Classic” participant while awarding some much needed scholarship funding to select individuals.
The Norm Van Lier Scholarship Fund is a 501(c) (3) organization that looks to provide financial assistance to at-risk and under-served children who reside in Chicago’s West and South Side neighborhoods. This exciting event will bring sports, entertainment, industry, and community leaders together to advance Norm’s belief in the ability of education and cooperation to transform young lives.
World Sport Chicago is very excited to be partnering with the Norm Van Lier Scholarship Fund and we invite you to join with us as we work to unite Chicago’s youth and silence the violence!
