WSC Supports "One Summer Chicago"
World Sport Chicago is proud to support the One Summer Chicago initiative, a collaboration of the offices of Mayor Emanuel and County Board President Preckwinkle, Chicago private philanthropies, community-based and faith-based organizations and the University of Chicago – Crime Lab. The initiative aims to curb the long-term growth of youth violence by identifying strategies to keep youth engaged throughout the summer.

WSC Hosts 2nd Annual Wrestling Festival
On Saturday, June 4, 2011 Navy Pier housed the Second Annual World Sport Chicago Wrestling Festival. Wrestlers from across the city and beyond came out to show their talents ranging from first year beginners to advanced wrestlers with four plus years of experience. The festival also featured an exhibition dual showcasing two wrestling teams: Beat the Streets – New York City versus Beat the Streets – Chicago.

Southside Scramblers Wrestling Club Makes Off-Season the In-Season
Take a closer look at one of the participating clubs in the 2nd Annual WSC Wrestling Festival at Navy Pier. The Southside Scramblers are not only focused on building great wrestlers, but they also build great men through community service, character building and wrestling, instilling values such as integrity, hard work, honor and discipline.

Intern Profile: Jonathan Brue
Jonathan’s first day at WSC was February 1, a memorable one for him and most of Chicago, better known as the Blizzard of 2011, dumping 22” inches of snow in the city by the end of the work day. That didn't stop Jonathan, he came back the next day and worked through the end of April, recently returning to Dordt to complete his final year.

East Garfield Park Youth Sports Festival
On Saturday, April 23, World Sport Chicago (WSC) capped off a busy week of sports demonstrations and clinics for CPS students on spring break, by supporting a series of Youth Sports Festivals, including one in East Garfield Park.

WSC 2011 Scholars Meet, Greet and Play Goalball
The 56 newest World Sport Chicago Scholars were invited to the 2011 Scholarship Meet and Greet, held at Chase Park on March 13th. There they met fellow WSC Scholars, listened to testimonials from last year’s scholarship recipients and learned how to play Goalball, a Paralympic sport for individuals with visual disabilities.

WSC Consulting Program hosts Spring 2011 Workshop
On Tuesday, March 22nd at Malcolm X College, World Sport Chicago hosted the Spring Workshop for the Community Sports Consulting Program, a new initiative that strives to support Chicago non-profit sport clubs and organizations by providing educational workshops, networking opportunities and consulting services that address clubs’ organizational and programmatic needs.

WSC Relaunches the Coach for Chicago Program
After just two months since its relaunch, World Sport Chicago’s Coach for Chicago program has not only made an impact on the participating organizations, but has also made an impact on the volunteer coaches themselves. Chicagoland Athletes Nominated to US Paralympics' National Boccia Team!
World Sport Chicago supports boccia programs throughoutt the Chicagoland area and assists with monthly tournaments where our local talent can put their skills on display. Because of their demonstrated potiential three Chicagoland athletes were selected to participate in a four day training camp in Birmingham, Alabama and later nominated to join the US Paralympics' National Boccia Team.

Intern Profile: Amy Kaufholz
Spend just a few minutes with Amy Kaufholz and you will know she is a passionate and knowledgeable sports fan. She has loaned that passion to WSC working as an intern for the BAM - Sports Edition program. Now, after learning a little about the business side of not-for-profits, she is hoping to carve out a career in this arena.

BAM Sports Edition Profile: Little Village Academy
World Sport Chicago profiles one of the sport programs that have been a part of the BAM - Sports Edition program since 2009. World Sport Chicago and Youth Guidance have been conducting this innovative new program, BAM, in a number of Chicago Public Schools throughout the city over the last two years. Hundreds of adolescent boys have been receiving a unique combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure to non-traditional sports.
