A Passion for Sports and Volunteering Lead Amy Kaufholz to World Sport Chicago

WSC Internship Profile
By Paul Slomski, WSC Contributor
Spend just a few minutes with Amy Kaufholz and you will know she is a passionate and knowledgeable sports fan. Not only is she a fan, but she is an athlete as well, listing swimming and basketball as her sports of choice while growing up in Ohio and competing on her high school tennis team. Amy also made time for other activities, following the example her parents set, and volunteering for a number of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity.
After graduating from Ohio State University last June with a B.A. in History, she moved to Chicago to pursue a Masters in Public Service at DePaul University. That is when she found the World Sport Chicago (WSC) internship program and knew it would be a good fit.
Amy started in November of 2010 and began gaining real world job experience managing components of the WSC and Youth Guidance BAM - Sports Edition program, communicating with coaches and counselors, tracking data and handling all the necessary paperwork.
Amy concedes her time spent at WSC has helped her overcome her shyness, honestly admitting she “had to grow in that area” because the job and her responsibilities demands interaction with many people throughout the day. Her internship requires a minimum of 24 hours a week and allows her the flexibility to set her work schedule, although she admits she comes in most days of the week and works longer because she likes the family atmosphere at WSC where “everyone helps each other out.”
Now, after learning a little about the business side of not-for-profits, she is hoping to carve out a career in this arena. If sports are a component of the next job, then that is just an added bonus. She loves living in the City of Chicago, is well organized, knows how to meet deadlines and is looking forward to what the future might bring in terms of her career.
The WSC Internship Program is designed for college undergraduate and graduate students to get on-site experience with a not-for-profit sports engagement and sports development social support agency. Internships focus on a variety of fields including but not limited to event planning, marketing, communications & public relations, program development & management, resource development, research and strategic planning. The WSC internship process focuses on learning through hands on experience with guidance and support from the full-time staff and members of our committees and boards.
Internships with WSC are offered on a rolling basis and typically last two to three months. WSC interns will join a small but dynamic team, learning strategic management and day-to-day operations of the organization while often taking part in a variety of different tasks and activities.
