World Sport Chicago is pleased to announce its title sponsorship of the National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC) to be held July 14-24 in Lake Forest and Deerfield, Illinois. The NJDC is the largest multi-sport competition in the country for youth between the ages of 7 and 21 who have a physical or visual disability. Over 300 athletes from across the country are expected to compete in the event.

Athletes who have met qualifying standards at regional events will compete in track, field, swimming, archery, table tennis, 3 on 3 wheelchair basketball and weightlifting. The Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA), based in Lake Forest, will host and manage the event.

“World Sport Chicago is thrilled to partner with the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association to bring the National Junior Disability Championships to Chicago,” said Patrick G. Ryan, Chairman of World Sport Chicago. “World Sport Chicago is committed to growing local sport opportunities for people with physical or visual disabilities. Hosting the NJDC in Chicago will improve awareness of Paralympic sport and the opportunities it provides for athletes to excel.”

GLASA Logo“The goals for these games and World Sport Chicago are a perfect fit,” said Ms. Cindy Housner, Executive Director of GLASA. “Not only does the NJDC provide national level competition for many Paralympic hopefuls, it provides a social outlet and helps create awareness that recreational or competitive sports are available to individuals who have a physical or visual impairment.”

World Sport Chicago has partnered with GLASA to provide other local program opportunities including: track and field for students who have visual disabilities in Chicago Public Schools, Camp Trek, the Go Girl Go Program, and the upcoming Christmas in July event at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital.
