Chicago 2016 and Olympic Gold Medalist Dominique Dawes Promote Youth Participation in Sport

 In advance of Saturday’s international gymnastics competition, Dawes to visit with Chicago youth regarding the importance of participation and Olympic values

CHICAGO (February 19, 2009) – Dominique Dawes, Olympic Gold Medalist and member of the 1996 “Magnificent Seven” U.S. Gymnastics Team , has partnered with Chicago 2016 and World Sport Chicago to promote Sport and Olympic values to Chicago-area youth.  Dawes was the first African-American to win an individual Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics and has participated in three Olympic Games.

On Friday, February 20, Dawes will visit Parker Community Academy and meet with youth to discuss the importance of participation in sport and Olympic values.

What:
Olympian Dominique Dawes will visit with Chicago-area youth to promote Olympic values and the importance of participation in Sport.  Dawes has been involved with the Chicago 2016 bid as well as its legacy organization, World Sport Chicago.  She will also attend the Tyson American Cup on Saturday at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates, IL.
