Community groups throughout the city will register with World Sport Chicago to field teams in a minimum of 3 different sports, which will then compete in the city-wide, end of summer tournaments. Tournaments will be held in the following sports:
Basketball - 3 vs. 3 tournament (10 and under, 11-12, 13-14)
Flag Rugby (10 and under, 14 and under)
Soccer - 8 vs. 8 tournament (6-8, 9-11, 12-14)
Team Handball (10-14)
Track (6-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, Paralympics)
Volleyball (10-12, 13-14)
Teams will be co-ed and will have age divisions specific to each sport. Opportunities will also be available for youth with physical or visual disabilities.
Registered Community Groups will:
- Field teams in at least 3 different sports
- Recruit coaches and participants, ages 6-14, from their communities
- Attend the kick-off event, the Family Sports Festival on June 16th
- Host practices for participants throughout the summer
- Compete in the end of summer tournaments, hosted by WSC July 28 - August 4
Chicago Community Games participants are also encouraged to register for one of the Chicago Park District swimming programs (Learn to Swim or Team Sports). It should be noted if Chicago Community Game community groups register athletes for a CPD swim program participant numbers will be counted toward grant bonuses but it will not count as one of the community groups' required 3 sports.
