Wheelchair Rugby was developed in Canada during the 1970s by athletes with quadriplegia. At the Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games it was presented as a demonstration sport and it was officially included on the Paralympic Programme at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. In 2006, it was practiced by 22 countries. Wheelchair Rugby is an intense, physical team sport for male and female athletes with quadriplegia (tetraplegia).

WSC Scholars 2010 Summer

Last Fall, 56 student athletes were selected as World Sport Chicago (WSC) Scholars; all winners play an Olympic sport and demonstrated a high level of commitment to athletics, academics and Olympic values. This summer they have been keeping busy competing in their respective sports, sharing their message with the youth of Chicago and preparing for life after high school.
Cullen Jones Makes a Splash

Hosted by World Sport Chicago, USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash program brought a number of Olympic swimmers to Chicago on Tuesday, June 22 for a breakfast with City leaders then out to Douglas Park to interact and get in the pool with neighborhood kids, all in an effort to teach more kids to swim. Olympic gold medalist Cullen Jones entertained the audience with a playful exuberance and riveting stories about almost drowning at a water park at the age of five then going on to become an Olympic swimmer.
