World Sport Chicago is the living legacy of Chicago’s 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Bid, dedicated to supporting the athletic and academic dreams of Chicago’s youth. The WSC Scholars Program was created to help student-athletes prepare for and succeed in college.
Students who will be high school juniors in the Fall of 2010, live and study in Chicago and have participated in an eligible Summer Olympic/Paralympic sport for two seasons in the past three years are eligible. Athletes of all levels are encouraged to apply. Commitment to the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect on the playing field, in school and in the community will be considered during the evaluation process.
Up to fifty-six students will be chosen to become WSC Scholars and participate in a Kaplan ACT tutoring and Chicago Scholars mentoring program that encourages academic and personal success during the college application process beginning second semester of their junior year and continuing throughout senior year. WSC Scholars will also be eligible to compete for one of sixteen renewable college scholarships worth up to $10,000 annually ($40,000 total), supported by the MacArthur Foundation.
Applications for the 2011 World Sport Chicago Scholarship Program will be available in August of 2010.
